Car Scrap Scheme - How it Works

2011-07-14 12:31:50

The car scrap scheme was launched in the UK on May the 18th 2009 and was designed to help boost the UK car industry. Owners of vehicles which are more than 10 years old are entitled to £2000 off the price of a brand new vehicle. Despite some initial criticism more than 38 manufacturers signed up for the scheme but many have been left asking how does the scheme work?
Put simply the new scrap car scheme works on a grant basis whereby both the government and the individual car manufacturer put forward £1000 towards the discount on the new vehicle. In order to make use of the new scheme vehicle owners must also go through several formal checks.
What's required?
Firstly the scheme is only applicable to cars and vans under the weight of 3.5 tons. Vehicles must also have been registered before the 31st of July 1999 and does include the late T registered number plates.

Understanding the Car Scrappage Scheme

The one silver lining on the credit crisis cloud is that for those who can afford it, there's never been a better time to buy a car. Prices are already being slashed by motor manufacturers and the Government has now introduced a car scrappage scheme in conjunction with the UK motor industry making them even more affordable. The scheme will allow a discount of £2,000 against the cost of a new car if the buyer is also scrapping a vehicle that is at least ten years old. How a Car Engine Works

The other name for a car engine is internal combustion engine; it is designed to make use of controlled explosions on smaller scale to generate power needed to operate the vehicle. Same engine is used in lawnmowers, motorcycles and other devices which use motors for their running. There have been a number of advancements to make better use of power and increase efficiency but still car engines are simple machines. I Can't Donate Scrap Metal to a Charity, Can I?

The whole idea of people gaining tax exemptions by donating their cars to charities has created a number of new possibilities in the way that individuals donate to charities. Under the auto donation scheme cars that are donated to charities will be sold off to achieve the best possible price. The money from this sale will then be used by the charity to help those in need, both at home and abroad. When people donate their cars they enjoy the pleasant feeling that comes with helping those in need. Cars Sales Growing

Good economic news seems to be increasing in the media lately. While some sectors like construction are still slow to recover, car sales are up.Vehicle owners must also be the registered owner of that vehicle for more than one year before they can take advantage of the scheme. The vehicle being exchanged must have a valid MOT certificate.
How To Take Advantage
To take advantage of the scheme people must take their old vehicles to the dealer and provide them with the necessary documentation. This includes log books and MOT certificates. The dealer will then check the documents and the vehicle and once accepted will be sent off to the scrap car yard of their choice.
Dealers must also be presented with a car scrap voucher from the government. This entitles them to the grant.
